9088 and 9088iis network compatibility

I have a system with an installed 9088, and need to expand it. I am considering adding a 9088iis, but I'm not sure if they are compatible.
I read somewhere that the \"iis\" version uses different networking chips.

Can the 9088 and the 9088iis be networked together and work as a unit?

Any caveats or issues I should be aware of if they are compatible?

  • Internally, the systems are a little different, and they use different firmware, but they all play well together on the network, just make sure that you correctly identify each device in your design file.
  • I ended up purchasing another 9088, and not the 9088iis. However, when I connect the network ports, there is no connection.

I created the design with U1 and U2, and connected the net out to net in in the Map window. However when I physically connect the two units with a short CAT5 jumper, there is no logical connection. The Designer software sees only the unit that has the serial cable connected, and the Network LEDs on the front panel do not illuminate. I tried connecting the reverse path using the other two ports ( only using one jumper of course), but still nothing.

These Soundwebs have never been networked before. Is there some \"master network enable\" setting in Designer that I am missing? I looked everywhere, but did not see anything like that.

Otherwise why would they fail to form a network?
  • All Soundweb Original devices work with each other on the network.
There is no \"master network enable\"

You could try reloading the firmware, but if that has no effect then the device might need to be repaired.

Soundweb Designer is not fully supported on Windows 7. It will install, but as you've found out, the Event Log will not work. For full functionality, it must be installed on an either Windows XP or 98.
The Soundweb Designer Event Log uses a type of database that does not exist in Windows 7. That's why it doesn't work and is not fully supported.
The version \"specified for Windows 7\" is not different from the original version, only the installer has been changed so that it installs properly on Windows 7.

Soundweb Designer will work fine using XP Mode. You should be able to enable the COM port on your host computer to be visible to virtual XP. For example, I am using a USB-Serial adapter on my PC which is assgined to COM port 1.
