presets and dragging buttons

OK, I'm sure doing something stupid but have watched training video and modules again and again....after creating a Parameter Preset Group and a couple of Presets...I cannot drag onto design template and create a button...I see the Presets in Design but if I grab and try to drag, can't do it.....

    Find the presets in the design tree view. Drag either the preset directly, or the preset group onto a custom control panel. Preset will appear as a momentary button, the group will appear as a drop down list.

    FINALLY got that I could drag my presets onto a CUSTOM control panel; but never saw this explained anywhere in any training materials, and in fact in the Video Tutorial series it seems to show specifically dragging onto the Main design panel. But I'm good now, at least I can drag presets somewhere. Thanks for your response.
