9088 missing components

Dear Sirs,
I picked up a trusty old 9088 for free. It powered on and connected to the designer software, but has noise (~500 Hz sine) on the outputs and doesn't pass signal. From this web forum and other sources I gathered that exchanging the power supply capacitors might fix the faults.
While removing the capacitors I noticed however that some components were missing. The holes for the legs of the components are filled with solder.
Is this normal?
I'm starting to have doubts if this unit can be fixed with reasonable effort.
Any pointers?
best regards,
Bob
