USB keyboard input for logic trigger

Hello,
I am looking for a solution to use multiple usb 4 or 5 button custom keyboards to trigger logic on a design.
Currently we are using the GPI from a BLU-100 & a BLU-120 to achieve this but I am looking for alternate methods.
Is there a way to read the USB buss that perhaps puts the equivalent of a key held down with a modifier key to trigger a logic? The keyboards and customizable and programmable.
