Radio Shack RS232 adaptor for Driverack GUI

Hello-
Having trouble getting the adaptor to work with the Ver. 2.5 software.
Adaptor set up for correct baud rate and the com ports match between adaptor and Driverack software.
When opening Driverack software, either it sits with no \"hourglass\" icon or I get a \"error opening com #\".
Any other users with this type of experience or suggestions would be appreciated.
Laptop is a Dell Inspiron 6000.
