Crash Course

Great forum! Thanx for sharing the knowledge. I put a system together for small and medium rooms for a side project where I'll be playing and providing sound. Bought a separate DBX crossover, dual 31 band EQ, and compressor for lead vocal and gate for kick drum.
Mains JBL JRX125's 500 watts rms at 4 ohms powered by QSC 2450 750 watts to each in stereo.
Subs Peavey PV118's 400 watts program at 8 ohms powered by QSC 1850 380 watts rms to each stereo.
Carvin 1644 mixer
When researhing speakers civilian reviews on internet stores and an educated review on HC about the JBL's touted these speakers as great sounding unbelievable for the price quality, then on the pro forums they're considered junk. I'll have my own opinion this weekend.

OK, so I need to get the best sound I can ASAP, never heard about the Driverack til recently but it looks like a real time saver, eliminate all the trial and error of separate components. Bought DRPA and RTA mic with the impression I'll follow the wizard (my amps and speakers are in updated firmware) auto EQ, AFS etc. I have no place to set up the system except the venue so I can't get to the point where it will tell me if the wizard will:
1) Auto program the crossover points and settings?
2) Autp program the limiters?
and
3)Don't want to use a compressor across everything, guess not a problem to use mine inserted as mentioned above?
4) Guess I should follow manual gain structure procedure and the amp setting suggestions of 37 and 39 are meaningless)?
6) Bought this as a plug and play solution but now reading here that there's a steep learning curve?(I have taught myself basics quickly and of course realize have alot to learn).
The main band I'm in has sound provided, so this will be an adventure. Thanks in advance for answers and input!

    Very briefly...
Wizard config..set up custom or default to user presets if loaded,
swap amps use the 2450 bridged on the subs
    set up a 2x3
    set a HP of 45 hz bw18
set a xover of 99.2 hz(LP) LR 24 for the subs
    set an LR 24 @ 102.1(HP)
you have no LP available in the DRPA
read the FAQ \"welcome\" and if possible the http://www.driverack.com/drug/index.asp
    Tutorials...
    do a gain structure
use the amp controls to balance the system
try and get as much headroom as possible
the limiters are not brick wall but functional.. auto produces artifacts.. follow the Welcome setup...
set up one stack outside if possible and get a flat system and store that for reference.. if indoor is all you have use close proximity on axis mic position to limit off axis signal from reaching the mic... 1 stack only!
select the flat preset and sweeten to taste if feedback, and room interaction are not a problem, store this as another preset

    gotta fly

Welcome. We've all bought stuff, then said Oh crap. Such is life.

Read this post. Your same speakers used (JRX125). http://www.dbxpro.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=611
    Super long, but useful.

    1) Yes, but... 176hz seems high. (way high)
    2) Yes, but... you are severly under powered. Whatever you do don't let the amps clip. Read the FAQ post. Bridge the 1850. That will give you 1800w @ 4ohms. Each sub would have 900w to play with. that would be a 2 x 3 set-up. (stereo tops and mono sub)
    3) Good choice.
    4) See #2
    6) Patience

Download the GUI from here http://www.dbxpro.com/Download/ DriveWare® GUI
    220i, 240, 241, 260, 442, 480, 481, 482

It will help you visualize more what's going on in the DRPA.
    Good luck.

    Hmmm..
Dra I have to say here that you DEFIANTLY have NOT seen the lite...

en-lightened... a light goes on as the answers fall into place

en-lite-ned ...enabled to become of less weight..

This is one of those all purpose words though so I guess I have to cut you some slack...I mean a word that can at once indicate illumination AND a weight condition with NO syntax change... No wonder the world wants to kick our ass... :?

I hope our govt. is being extra vigilant as Sept 11 approaches...I bet they would just love to add an exclamation point to that day...

    Be well,

I'm at a loss. I don't know what to say. If Fred Astare (sp) had 2 left feet, would he then have a yard? I bet Gadgit knows.

  • Monkey boy,...Anyone would know that if he still had his right foot he would have a yard!...

Here's one for you: If a jet airliner crashed dead smack on the Kentucky - Tennessee boarder where would they bury the survivors?...

They wouldn't bury them at all. They would be cremated. So there!

Glad to to lighten things up with my first post. Did the gain structure procedure etc. all is good to go. The only advice that I'm concerned about is putting 900 watts to 200 rms. The subs are 400 watts program 360 to each is 1.8 times rated rms.
  • DraDra Posts: 3,777
That is not a problem. If you are still concerned, lower the threshhold on the limiters.
