Lost mid section running 3 way

Hi all and thanks for all the advice you have posted on this board.

I have been using a DRPA for the last 8 months with no problems but on Saturday when i connected it up 3 - way i lost all of my mid section. It has been configured in the pass for both 2 and 3 way in the past without any issues.

I am using a Peavey amp for mids and the DDT light came on after the amp had been powered up which indicates that the protection circuit had kicked in due to a bad signal and there was no output to the speakers. When the input to the amp was removed the protection lights went out.

Unfortunately for me at the time I did not have the manual with me to perform a soft or hard reset so i am currently not sure if thats going to cure the problem. In the end I had to set up 2 - way and that worked ok.

The DRPA is currently in the lock up with the rest of out gear and I will not have the time to get to it until the weeked.

Any advice would be greatful

Thanks

When you went 2-way did you use the Peavey amp? Did you replace the XLR cable? Did you use the XLR cable elsewhere? Did you unplug the cable from the DRPA end with the amp end still connected? Did the DDT engage with no signal present? If I remember the DDT compares the distortion ratio between input and output. Has someone jacked up the Mid x-over gain where it is clipping perhaps? All things to look at.
    Gadget? Anything I've missed?

When i went 2 way the peavey amp was used, I knew the amp was ok because i fed the high signals through the amp when configured for 3 way and the midrange boxes played and the DDT lights did not come on. They also failed to come on when the mid signal was removed from the amp in the 3 way setup.
Cables were replaced but that had no effect and because we were setup in stereo mode i would have expected one channel to fail if the leads were faulty and not both.
I dont think its a gain issue because the DDT light came on even when the mixer feeding the DRPA was muted.

Sounds like you did everything. I would be temped to send the mid signal to another amp (no speakers attached) and see what it does. Then, if you feel comfortable, connect speakers (with gains down) and slowly turn up the amp and see if it is producing noise.

In the end this isn't going to tell you much, other than there is a problem.

Go in to every program that YOU set up and write down ALL settings in every module. Do a hard reset as described in the manual, then re-enter your data. If you want to save some time and avoid entering and it still failing, then select any of the 3-way presets as a test.

Good look, and let us know.
