Need clarification on gain structure

Hi all
Thanks for all the wonderfull information on this forum.

I've read through as much as I could. I think that I understand the gain structure procedures. Now, when you use the wizard on the DRPA, it shows a recommended \"amp level setting\". A similar setting shows up in the DriveWare GUI. I understand that it is best to leave this setting at the recommended value and finish the wizard, then do a gain structure as outlined on this forum. After that, I arrive at a point where my amp attenuators are at a certain level. Do I then go back and edit the configuration and adjust the \"amp level settings\" on the DRPA to match the physical amp attenuator values? Furthermore, can someone please explain to me what exactly this \"amp level setting\" does in the DRPA software?

The settings images are just that in the DRPA. Ignor them (use as reference only) and go with what you manually came up with. The DRPA is not \"doing\" anything to the output. Only telling where someone thinks your amps (based on their findings, findings may vary) should be.

  • Thanks Dra for the prompt response. Just as I thought, really. I just wanted to be absolutely sure that the setting in the software doesn't affect the output in any way. So it is really there only for informational purposes.

Yes,...It's only there to suggest starting points... I would setup a custom configuration even if the speakers and the amps I had were listed... I've seen several new users get totally hung-up because their particular brand or model of speakers or amplifiers isn't listed... I have also seen new users get confused because they think the "wizard" settings are definitive... Basically,...once you set your gain structure, and balance the system the "wizard" attenuator settings will usually get tweaked... The speaker selection in the DriveRack will suggest starting values for HPFs, LPFs, and crossover gain settings but I would probably fine tune those as well... The bottom line is once the system is tuned the actual settings will most likely be entirely different than what the "wizard" had suggested...:P

Personally I think the "wizard" creates more chaos than it's worth...2cents.gif

    Cheers!
