Balancing the System

I am plowing through the Gain structure and system balancing Instructions again in the A Heart Felt Welcome letter. At one point in this page, after the Gain setting and you get into the Balancing section it states \" set the input fader on the input channel on the design center( unity gain point) (this gives the best signal to noise in the analog domain)... What is the Design Center?? and is the input fader the actual Channel Fader or the little Input Gain Trim knob on the channel [on my PMH3000 anyways]???

The input fader is the "channel fader" and "design center" is unity (same as 0dB)...:D

    Hope this helps!
