QSC Amp settings

ptf01ptf01 Posts: 13
Recommended Driverack 260 settings for a system with
1 per side JBL MRX525 w/QSC 1602 - Bridged (per cabinet)
1 per side JBL MRX 528S w/QSC 3002 - Bridged (per cabinet)
Recommended crossover, compressor and limiter settings.

I understand the MRX cabs are in the wizard but the QSC amps are not. What would be the recommended amp attenuator settings, compressor and limiter settings for each amp. Thanks in advance. TP in NC

The 1802 is the replacement for the 1602 and the 3102 for the 3002. Use those in the wizard. However, it is recommended to go to the READ ME FIRST section and do the manual gain and limiter set-up procedure. The wizard also sets the cross-over at 81hz. Gadget hates (reall doesn't like) ever using 80 hz because you can have problems with a major kick drum frequency. Bump up to 90 or 100 hz. One reason for the manual amp gain setting is that pots can be inconsistant from one channel to the other, or one amp to the next. If the newer QSC's are not listed in your driveware, get the update.

Thanks DRA...I just completed a gain structure using pink noise, dude the attenuator settings in the wizard were way off on the 3102. It was showing about 49 (12:00) I had to turn it to 78 (3:00) before it started clipping. Does this sound correct??

The 1804 settings were right on the money though....go figure...TP in NC

I'll guess (maybe Gadget will chime in) that all the wizard settings are based on full range input and your real world settings are limited bandwidth due to the x-over.

Did you make sure that the pink noise channel eq was flat?

EQ set flat. pink noise through a channel & set the fader @ unity, pfl the channel & ran the gain to just above clipping. I set the master faders (L&R) at unity as well. Brought up the 1604 to just above clipping & it maxed at 12:00. Brought up the 3002 & it maxed out at 3:00....(75). Once I brought the channel out of clipping all amps were barely bumping the first light. Whatcha' think?? - TP in NC

Thats why I find so little use for those amp attenuator settings... the gain structure takes ALL the equipment into consideration...

HOWEVER...You could have set the amp as specified and used the crossover gain control to set the amp to clip @ the 12:00 position... If noise was to become an issue you might want to compare the two methods and stick with what works best...

interesting enough - I actually did boost the low frequency attenuator a little in the crossover settings too. But I'll try it both ways as you suggested....once I've set both programs is it ok if I send you my settings & you tell me what you think....TP in NC

Hey Gadget & DRA, it's me again...thanks for all your previous help; the settings are working great…one other question. Can I come out of channel 5 & 6 with the current settings to a pair of JBL EONS (powered)? I am running 1&2 as L/R High and 3&4 as L/R Subs. Can’t I run 5 & 6 as a full range signal to the Eon’s? This way I can use these for side angels (sorta). I need to direct some sound behind the stage to some picnic shelters. (Bluegrass Festival). All suggestions are welcomed…Thanks TP in NC

    Very easy.
    For stereo...
    Click the config button.
Right click the (F)ilter for ouptut 5 and select 2x2 filter.
Press and hold \"CTRL\" and left click the module pairs then right click and select \"Link\".
    Click the config button.

Set up your filter with a high pass of 50-60hz @ BW18. This of course depends on relationship to the subs and use. You may have to raise the HPF to match the crossover of the mains and add significant delay to the Eons. Ahhhh, the 260. Ain't it great.

For a combined mono... there are several things that you can do to achieve the same results. See if you can figure them out.

maybe select 1X1 filter and then select the pairs???

if I want a full range singal to the Eons' can't I leave the high pass @ about 30 or is 50-60z low enough for the eon's for a full range singal??

The Eons are rate +/-3db to 42hz. I wouldn't go any lower than 50hz (still, musically speaking is quite low). The problem with running them low (and subs being in the area) is that you could have major phasing problems if the delay is not dead on.

1x1 filter, select the input as A+B then daisy chain the speakers, using out 5 only. It all depends on what & how you want to go.

There is light at the end of the tunnel....this beotch is way too cool...it's starting to make sense now... I see the reasoning for the 50-60z....this will be great...thanks again...I'll let you know how it goes...TP in NC

Well the Gluegrass Festival was Saturday, using channels 5 & 6 for sidefills worked great. I actually directed them towards the picnic table area & it worked great. Thanks for all of your support, you guys are doing a wonderful job....the 260 is an amazing piece of equipment...TP in NC
