DR260 - Newbie - SRM450 and JBL SRX728

Hello all,

Just got my DR260 and like most of you, I feel like a kid at xmas. I currently run my system in mono. Out of my mackie 1604vlz, into a Behringer Ultracurve Pro, then to a X-over..where I cross over at about 120. I run my top end into 2 Mackie SRM450's...and bottom into a JBL SRX728 (dual 18\"), powered by a Crown CE4000 (run in bridge mono). I'm replacing the Behringer stuff with my DR260, and just wanted to see if I could get some opinions/advice to help me get up and running quicker. I have my gain structure currently set up correctly (in my opinion), based on the guidelines from this forum.
I will be running from my 1604vlz into my DR260...tops into 2 Mackie SRM450's...bottom into a JBL SRX728 (dual 18\"), again powered by a Crown CE4000. I see the CE4000 listed in the manual as a setting, but not the SRX728.

First question: Can I download a setting for the SRX728? If so, can anyone provide a link?

Then for my tops, I see the C300 speaker as a setting, which is the same speaker as my SRM450, just unpowered.

Second question: is there a setting I can download for the SRM450, or should I just choose the C300 setting, and then find a power amp with the same wattage as the poweramp in the SRM450?

Any advice that will help me get rolling quickly would be very appreciated.
Thanks!
- Jay

You don't need all that crap... If you MUST have a preset choose the C300 it'll give to a bandpass filter for the tops, Do a wizard setup 2X3 go bridged mono on the crown, choose the amp if you wish, but it'll only confuse the GAIN structure issue...(unless you want to start messing with the xover gain controls in the 260) I'd start below 120 hz as that allows too much intelligibility into the sub.. so start @ BW 18@ 44.1hz HPF for the sub and 105.1 hz LR 24 for the LPF, the SRM 450's would then get the c300 preset and a HPF of 108.2, or maybe 118.1 depending on xover area interference...

The LPF would be to out o the tops... then go to the Welcome section and do all the stuff provided there.. as for the gain on the SRM's start about 1/2 and see where the manual agin structure ends up, if you need more... turn the controls up a bit...

FYI. The Mackies and the JBL are added in the update avaliable for download. Gadget is spot on, the recommended gain for the Mackies is 50%. The x-over is quite different from Gadget rec, but I'd lean to G's. Hi pass at 26hz? Please. Plus Gadget does not like to cross at 80 hz. Try 90 or 100 maybe.

  • Thanks Gadget! I'll give that a try and see where I end up.

The reason I chose the above 100 hz xover is the lower you go the more the woofer works and the less midrange clarity there is.. that and the limited power of the SRM amps... It's really all a series of trade offs...and compromises that are predicated by any number of factors...There simply is no \"perfect solution\"

  • Thanks for all the info guys.
I just got back from my last gig with my behringer gear, and i'm looking forward to hooking up the DR260 after I get a few hours of sleep.
I'll probably download the SRM450 settings, just to have them....but I'm going to try setting it up per gadget's original recommendations. I'm sure I'll be back posting again if I turn my PA into a sonic disaster...
    Thanks,

  • Ok, that wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be.
I'm up and running and it sounds great!
    Thanks guys!
