Help choosing solution for Church

BDIsBDIs Posts: 4
Hello,
I'm looking at buying a driverack solution for our church. We are currently running Yorkville amps and mains with Yorkville monitors. We have a single mono triple speaker stack at stage center that we will be splitting into 2 double speaker stacks on stage left and right. We have 4 Monitor sends. 1 for piano/organ, 1 for the pulpit, 1 for the choir and 1 for the instrumentalists.

We also have 2 fill speakers for the balcony. The installer installed 2 yorkville monitors bolted to the roof. It looks like he just split the main single and ran it through a small delay box. We are not using it at the moment since our congregation has not grown to a size large enough to use it yet.

We are currently running the triple speaker stack full range. I think we will also run the split stacks full range for the time being. until we add subs later this year.

We do have a zone controller that controls outputs to the cry room, foyer, and Nursery.

My question is I am assuming there is no one device that will control the mains and monitors. I need a 6 input 6 output device. 2 for the mains and 4 for the monitors unless I keep using a mono signal for the mains. What would you guys recommend for a fixed install?

Well, in the business we end up using multiple devices if there isn't a good solution. Here if you didn't care about controlling all the units simultaneously via computer, 3 each DR260's would do nicely, or a 260 and a 480, or 4800 and a 260.
There are however, processors that have the capability,
Rane RPM 88 ....10 ins, and 10 outs
    Sabine MNAV8802.... 8 ins 8 outs
    BSS PS 8810 ...8 in 10 out
Bi Amp Nexia ...CS 10 in 6 out
    Xilica XD8080 ...8 in 8 out
Xilica XP 8080...8 in 8 out

Granted most of those are more than 3 of the 260's would be, but they are all good units, they also don't have all the features of the Driverack platform.

If I wanted to control them all centrally what would be the best solution?

If it makes a difference we are using 1 Yamaha 02r. We will be adding a second 02r at the end of the week and cascading them. We run most of the tracks via ADAT into a PC for recording.

We don't need the crossover capabilities now but would need them later down the road when we add the subs.

Is it the 96? Are you controlling the mixer via a computer and if so what interface are you using/platform...Cobra net..ethernet...etc. and what control functions are you looking for from the computer.. as in strictly recording? I kind of need to assess your needs in order to make a recommendation, although all those units I proposed are first rate. I'm using the 260 and 4800 for my needs and they work Awesome! The interfaces are different, but can both run concurrently...What is the budget, I mean most of the units are in the $3000 plus area...

    Thanks for the responses.

    It's the original 02r. I wish I could afford the 02r96s. I do have a 01V96 I use at home though.

I track 16 ADAT lightpipe channels into a PC via an RME card for recording things during the service. I go in after the fact and clean everything up before \"mastering\" (If that's what you want to call it!! lol) to CD for distribution. I can control the mixer from the PC via the ToHost port and thought about going that route and USing The Cubase 4 software for a little more than just recording the service. It's all up in the air right now. the original installer REALLY mest the system up with the way he put that center stack in. He put to many speakers in the stack, angled them wrong, and hung them WAY to far towards the rear of the stage.

The effect we have now is the bottom speaker in the stack facing almost straight down at the pulpit (In effect STRAIGHT into the pulpit mic) so they had to EQ out allot of the Meat of the frequency range!

Word to the wise, spend the extra cash and hire a reputable installer! STRES THIS TO THE \"COMMITTY\"

You didn't answer the budget question...If your looking to control the whole system obviously a unit that talked the same language as the rest of the system would be preferable, but since your not using any system software any platform would work.

The 260's could be controlled one at a time (you would close communications with one and start up another) and @ around $700 each...

Some units have no GEQ's at all, and only PEQ's so that may be a consideration, The Bi Amp and BSS units are very popular and seen in a lot of installs. Rane has a great track record and reputation. The Sabine and Xilica units are the newest, but I believe the Xilica has the best sound quality...perhaps even in the XTA class, especially in the XP series...
