Auto EQ...won't work ?

Hiya !

This is my first post here...so bare with me. I've read more than a couple of times that Driverack PA's auto EQ will not work inside.

I beg to differ.

I had a Bear-ringer ultra Q earlier - which I had to sell due to audible distortion it made (when used as a master eq ran from the main inserts). So - enter the Driverack PA. I'm using cloned old-skool Martin folded horns for sub spkrs (I just love the way how long wave energy is dispersed and...well..\"thrown\" into the venue) and cheapo wharfedale tops for mids & highs. If I'm using all the amplifying power I got there's a fair 8kW without monitors. Once I got rid of bear-ringer and did my first gig with Driverack I just used auto EQ to EQ the room (not recommended...). Then, after the EQ was set I played couple of my test songs and did few corrections, applied compression (not recommend either...) and the system was set up. During the gig the sound stayed good and I was really happy with the results. So it cannot be that bad, can it ?

I got one question to ask anyway...I guess the majority in here knows that Driverack PA makes really nasty blow if mains power disappears suddenly. Has that been dealt with PX ? PX does not seem to have power switch so I guess it'll do the same...

NO!.... BUT... the good news is it still only takes a 300VA uninterpretable power supply to solve THAT problem (for about $35 US) AND the PX has peak plus limiting! ( brick wall).

I also beg to differ that we have said that the Auto EQ \"will not work\" indoors....I personally wrote \"

That is \"auto Eq ... how it's supposed to work\"
Here I have used the Auto EQ in my personal venue ( a very good room... and they are few and far between...) and had usable results... TO A POINT...Just know that there are limitations, and MOST pro audio engineers wouldn't use an RTA based auto EQ system to EQ their SHORTS...

That said we have tried to provide a real world \"user guide\" to attaining \"repeatable\" results...Each room is different, and presents it's own problems... BEWARE...

Are you cutting off peaks, bringing up the lulls, or both? Compression causes 2 things: Changes the designed musical character of song as intended by the artist. I suppose in some cases some might be OK, but imagine listening to \"Dark Side of the Moon\" compressed with a threshhold of -20 and a gain of 20. The other thing is economic. Highly compressed sound does not let the amps or speakers breath (rest), because it's all loud, all the time. Your gear will likely last only 1/2 as long before they start to sound weak.

    Hi !

    Thnx for the answers.

Off the record - quite often I'm more concerned about the total sound & energy over the dynamics when making live public amplification. I wouldn't compare my job to a mastering engineers job...still, even with the highest compression rate I've used a good band still have their stage dynamics.

...and I got a small UPS and my DRPA's power switch is bypassed...

Just wanted you to know that I've had really nice results with DRPA auto EQ...so use it !!!
