Is my new DRPX defective?

I have 2 Samson DB500a connected to my DRPX. I play small venues with 4 vocal mics and want the vocals to sound loud and be clear. Now the quickstart guide describes using the setup wizard with the RTA Mic and it states to set pinknoise level to the desired volume (which is somewhat quiet)-needed for the venue. When I do exactly that- and then press the NEXT PG button- nothing happens, except the message to turn up the level- which, when done, it is too loud, Occasionally when turning volume up- I also get a message flash showing SET TO PERFORMANCE LEVEL, but again nothing happens when I press the NEXT PG button although I do see the meters flashing and the display goes back to TURN UP LEVEL, The manual says normal typical is 0-6db, but that is too loud for normal hearing, I'm thinking there might be bad wiring connection somewhere in this unit, but when I read your forum and the RMF sections you seem to contradict the quick start manual and state the RTA isn't usable indoors, etc..etc.. All the advertising, and reviews for this piece of gear describe the RTA mic and AUTO EQ being a simple way to get sound enhancement. Please help clarify- is this normal or do I need to exchange it for a new one, or is my RTA mic defective.
