Filters and X-over guidance

Am using Mackie 1530's up top and a pair of peavey subs on bottom. Have tried running subs on aux but want to come back to DRPA and run everything there. I think Gadget gave me suggested filters and x-over a long time ago but I cannot locate. Subs are 18's powered by Crown XTI 2000. Having lots of problem getting solid bottom end, especially kick drum. Lacking any real punch.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Well... you must have changed your user name....and you should know that we need as much info as possible... PV118's? 2/4? I will assume 2? 8 ohm? then:
Bridged mono on XTI 2000 that gives 1000 watts per PV118
    Hipass @ 45 hz bw 18
    lopass 100 hz LR24

    As for the Mackie's...
LR24 @ 100 hz hipass (this is easy to move up or down but since you are only~(read that so~so) on power...Thats where I'd start)

In the READ ME FIRST before posting section,(welcome) do the gain structure, this will determine the level the subs need to be (by ear) with respect to the Mackies.. Then (if you have the measurement mic) do the outdoor method, or the new indoor method (TOPS ONLY)... and since they are tall and lanky I'd use the \"on axis 4-5 feet out midway on the speaker with as high a level as the DRPA will allow...flat response.

Store the preset as flat, use that as a basis for any room eq...

    Read the info provided!

  • Sorry, yes, 2 PV118 (very unimpressive subs) running bridge mono off the crown amp, so 4 ohm. Tops are (2) SR1530's. Running TT24 board stereo to DRPA. Normally smaller clubs but occasional need for larger room (300-500) or small outside event.

Band is classic rock, 6-piece. (keys, bass, guitar, drums, aux perc, vox)

Understand gain steps and will repeat. Setting gain on the 1530's a little more challenging since active cabinet but am usually fine with that. I think I'm going to discover that I need more/better subs but am going to go thru exercise anyhow.

Yes, had to change username, lost credentials from before. Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately the PV118's use the thoroughly unimpressive \"pro 18 premium woofer\" ...I feel the same way about the Peavey subs that use the Black widow.. BUT the good news is, that the ones that have the Pro Rider woofers may be the best bang for the buck! The QW subs are excellent, and I believe that the SP 218's are perhaps the same subs...or very similar...I like the pro-rider stuff..

If your handy, or know of someone who is handy with a saw, I have the perfect subs for you... the drivers are about $150 and the wood for a couple, and all the extras.. handles, paint corners and connectors a pair would be around $100 and they kick ass like crazy! I used 4 this weekend and with a pair of SP4 tops bi-amped rocked like CRAZY! I used a Crown CTS 3000 in stereo on the subs (4 ohms) and the kick and bass were so huge I barely had them on! I only saw 3 3 bars on the SPL display and they were thumpin! Best of all they are not very heavy.. Bass you can pick up an carry at the end of the night!

Certainly... why, do you think I would tease you and not offer up the goods?

The company is Loudspeakers Plus... tell Jay I sent you (Gary Perrett Tzone productions) Phone 847.963.0725

The Driver is the P Audio Challenger C15-600EL

    The enclosuer is here:

    http://www.fane-acoustics.com/pdfs/Cabi ... ch125L.pdf

Fane is out of business... there is still some new old stock available BUT once the product on hand is gone... well you get the picture right? Besides the Fane drivers are WAYYY more expensive and the Paudio's have field replaceable baskets should you screw up...

My friend runs with 2 of them I add a pair of mine for some serious low end.. 6-8 would be ... well KILLER!

Now when your really serious about low end.. come see me about some LABsubs...with 6 you get poopy pants

Good luck and good building... they are really quite easy to build.. I used polly propoline (sp?)glue (be sure to moisten the pieces as per iinstructions... and it's NASTY to get off your hands... rubber gloves would be a good idea) and sheetrock screws... used some wood filler putty, and used a texture roller and some thick hi-gloss latex paint... the corners, and handles I get from :

you can get the Speakon connectors from Jay (LSP) cheaper

the Tube is 4\" schedule 20? the thinwall drain pipe, and I used small blocks at the back of the ports and brad nails in the front where the tube meets the front baffel

They also list an 18\" version that is BIGGER heavier, and has no more output or efficiency, and doesn't go any lower frequency wise...and the driver is more ($10) but is also an option...

I haven't actually weighed mine, but using 16 ply birch, I think they are only 40-50 lbs! Your Peavey's are 73 lbs
