Driverack PA Broken!

Hello all!
First post, but I have been lurking and reading up on the PA, and learning quite a bit.
On one of my PA's when I turn it on, the screen is darkly lit and all pixelated. Once it flashed through the led's and scrolls DBX it seems fine. Well the other night I was looking at it. Literally had been running for hours, i turned the knob and the entire screen went crazy. Making no sense, all pixelated.

Fast forward to sunday and it works fine, but the screen is still pixelated. I powered off and back on and it worked fine. Later the screen was junk again, so i tapped it to see if it would snap back. I figured simple tap tap tap might fix it.
NOPE, the whole PA went silent. no audio output and most of the led's were lit on the front panel.

Since then i have used it twice, and done new setups flawlessly.
But sometimes I turn it on and the screen is pixelated, and i just restart it and it goes away.

What's wrong?
Screen, connector, something worse?

Any and all help would be appreciated.

There are two different issues that I know of, A regular pain in neck ribbon strip seating problem that is easily fixed with a little contact renew and reseat the display ribbon... there are some display failures as well...Another potential problem is a software degradation problem, where the only real solution is a soft, or even hard reset... this will (the hard reset) revert to factory settings, and wipe all user programs back to the factory stoneage...so mark down your settings. There is a 260 display failure thread runnung back @ the PSW (prosounweb.com...Live audio forum) where they discuss a supposed FIX that I haven't tried yet involving soldering the wires in...

If the unit is under warranty DON\"T open it up, if not you should be able to see the problem quite easily...

  • Thanks, I checked the PSW thread and I am not going to go that far yet. It worked fine this weekend.
I had the driverack out thursday to look at things a little closer and the rack it was in was broken. I replaced the whole rack, and so far so good. Would the pressure from the rack cause the screen to distort?
either way I'll check the warranty info tonight and see what the next step is.
I am pretty sure it's out of warranty though.

IF, and I mean IF the the ribbon strip is hangin by a thread, affected by poor alignment, corroded, (yes I've been watching a HOUSE marathon...) then yes, the chassis flexion could exacerbate the problem.. The thread at PSW indicated that corrosion might be an issue as well if any of these issues apply, (remember here that the majority of THOSE problems would be associated with conditions WITHOUT climatrol... I.E. HOT, COLD... MOISTURE...and who, would subject there equipment to such abuse?) You WILL continue to have issues... you will have to do something or suffer the consequences... unless you have the system too well tuned to need any changes, then the display is academic... (unless you need to add a new system, or speaker setup...)

    Sorry...

    Housing? Me too. 8)
  • Well here's an update. I opened it up and everything looked fine. I made sure the seat ribbon was on tightly. It was. And everything's seeming to work fine.

Lastnight tough it did the same pixelation on startup. Then when it rolled DBX across the screen it was gone and fine. So apparently I haven't fixed the problem 100% but I have not been able to recreate the problem of it shutting off and going haywire. So for now i am going to continue to run it. I have moved it to a system that gets much less work in the RTA and system setup department. I last RTA'd in a sound room so that I would have a \"perfect\" RTA. Then did an outdoors one as well. They were so close that I have just one level that is different and it's only off by 1.5db in the 80hz category. The rest were identical or only off by a .5 db.
So for now I am going to ignore it. I've used and abused it and it seems to work fine.

BTW Missouri loves company, or at least I do.
