DBX 266XL buzz

knayknay Posts: 2
I've been using a 266XL for recording for a few years and never experienced any noise. I recently pulled it to use for a road rig and without anything being plugged into the input of the DBX I am getting hum from the amp when I run any cable from the output of the DBX to the amp. This happens regardless of whether I use a high or low impedance cable to connect to it. I've tried a number of cables and even a ground lift on the amp itself, which actually introduced more noise, but the amp doesn't hum with other devices only the DBX. I'm looking for some suggestions as to what could be causing it and how I might remedy the problem since I included it in my rig to reduce noise to the amp.

Well it sounds like a ground loop.. but the unit could have issues. Myself, being a tech I would look at the output with a scope, and a meter and see if there is a noisy output. Is there a long run between the amp and 266? I assume not since you have been trouble shooting. If you have another device you can insert, do so and make sure the signal is clean, and if when you add the 266 it has noise the 266 has a problem.. perhaps the power supply caps are leaking.
