Proper Gain Structure on Active Cabs

Hi Guys, I've used the Driverack PA for a little while now and have set the gain structure correctly when I was using it on a set of passive cabs with an external amp no problem. The question I have is now that I'm using a pair of QSC HPR153i's with the 181i sub how do I set the gain structure without running very loud pink noise through my speakers? Sorry if this is a noobish question but it's been eating at me all day as I've been doing a dry setup.

Thanks,
Jon

Unfortunately I don't have the setting for the sub... BUT I did get the HPR122...I must admit I do NOT understand at all the setting... the PX recommends the 122's @ 17% or roughly 8 O'clock...Then balance the subs to that...
As I said I don't understand unless the DRPA when set to unity provides the necessary levels for the HPR...some monkeying around will most likely be necessary...

A trick that I have used is to pause a CD and bring the channel and output to unity then bring up the volume pot on the speaker up to an acceptable noise level (speaker hum). Then when you play adjust the pot so that limiters don't engage unless the board meters are close to peaking. If the difference is a lot, then choose what is most important to you... silence or output.

  • Thanks guys, I'll try both of those out and let you know how I fair. I actually won' t have the sub in till Friday and I'll probably spend all day Saturday dialing everything in before a gig on Sunday. Hopefully all goes well, so far I'm very impressed with the HPR153i's.
