Horrible sound with microphone

icynavicynav Posts: 8
I am having an issue with the sound of the mic on my main speakers. The mic will sound decent from my booth monitor but it sounds all muddy and bad on my main speakers. Yet music play back sounds fine.

System topology is:
2-CDJ-1000s
1-Rane TTM57SL
1-JBL EON10G2 (monitor)
1-DBX Driverack PA
2-Crown Microtech 2400s (highs)
4-Community TD2212s (mains)
1-Crown Microtech 1200 (sub)
1-Emniance 18sub on a folded horn

I have tried several different microphones and all sound the same, adjusted compressors and limiters to no avail. What is confusing me is that MUSIC sounds fine on the main and booth and just the mic sounds bad.

Hmmm... are you using the onboard mic preamp? I have to assume you are...What level do you have the mic at? any sign of \"OL\" ? Have you tried different gain structures.. mic level lo masters higher...etc.? I assume you have, and if the mic preamp is the only thing that sounds crappy I have to suspect the mic preamp...DO you have an outboard mic peramp you could insert into one of the line level inputs to see if it is?

  • Sorry for the late reply with the holidays and all. I am using the onboard mic preamp, i have tried to adjust the mic level to master level and there is no signs of \"OL\". I have not yet tried to use an outboard mic preamp but ill try to do so tonight. Currently I have 5 TTM-57SL's (two for mobile rigs, and the three others for the three separate bars), i have switched out the mixers with each other and its only in this one set up that the mic sounds bad. But i will test out an external preamp tonight or tomorrow and let you know the results.
