RTA-M proper placement

tsakodimtsakodim Posts: 3
Hi I would like to know what is the right placement of an RTA-M Measuring Microphone. I am talking about placing it at the listening point in a room should the mic point towards the speakers or should it be vertical pointing up?
Thank you

Well assuming that there is only one point in the room that you want to emphasize, place a hard object (tile, plywood, or whatever) at the spot, then point the mic away from the speaker, toward the object about 1/4\" away (very close, but not touching).

  • Thank you for your answer. I am thinking thought that since my primely goal is not to measure the direct sound from the speakers and fix some EQ but to measure the total sound of the room and to treat it acoustically would the hard surface help?

Obviously you haven't read the FAQ section? What Dra is getting at is if you put an omni measurement mike out in the room you will have multiple arrival times from multiple speakers... this will mean that if the direct sound and that of a reflection arrive at the measurement out of phase the frequency will be non existent in THAT spot.. move an inch or two and that frequency is ok, but another has a problem...By placing the measurement in a \"PZM fashion as Dra says...you eliminate the reflected path from the floor/ceiling to the place the mic is on the stand.

    Have you read this?

Again I'd have to say no...

    Or even this?

Because... if you had you'd know WHY Dra and I are scratching our heads trying to figure out why your so determined to ruin your sound by ignoring all that has been written... and offered here?
