JBL JRX125 & JBL JRX118S Crossover Settings

So this is the hand I have been dealt. I know the speakers suck, but it is what I have to deal with for the time being until money in the budget frees up to upgrade. Until then, I need to turn as much suck out of the mains as possible. I am having an incredibly tough time dialing in the crossover frequencies on the crappy \"quasi 3 way\" speakers. We setup/breakdown every week so I only have about 30min each week to tweak it. Does anyone have any suggestions or use these currently that can help with the crossover? Below are the specs of the system:

+drpa 2x4
+crown xti 2000 amps
+300 seat theater
+speakers are 57 ft apart sitting on the stage

Let me know if more info is needed. Thanks in advance.

First off...you need to go to the \"READ ME FIRST BEFORE POSTING\" section... in the FAQ section ... you can learn why we select certain crossover types, and slopes... you will learn how to tame those crappy JBL pieces of &^%*! you will learn about gain structure and PEQ's, delay and system tuning...once you've done your homework, and come back without SWEEPING questions... we'll help... if you still need it.. it IS all there for you...

Also do a search on \"audiophile\". There is a 30  page thread that deal with those speakers, with good results. Kevin is the poster.

May I also point out that the READ ME FIRST BEFORE POSTING section has a lot of great \"get me started\" and information to learn from...as well as things to help optimize the setup you have...

Kevin got great results with his system, but just think what he could have done with GOOD speakers...I fail to see why JBL sells such flotsam...

  • I agree. We hod some idea when we bought this junk but not nearly to the extent of the true suck factor of the JRX series. We are activily seeking to replace the cabs as $$ will allow. But that's what got us in this mess to begin with. You buy cheap stuff and that's what you get. I have begun working my way through the FEQ and Read me Now. Thanks to everyone for all the insight .. this is gonna take me a while !!
