s/pdif mono versus stereo use

When using a 1260 setup for mono outputs (6 different zones) what is the recommended input setup when using the s/pdif from a satellite receiver for XM music? Should the 1260 s/pdif be set for stereo input? I would like right/left audio channels summed into mono.
