DriverackPX Powered Tops PRX515 with passive Subs

Hi guys,

Can anyone help?

I'm a novice to complex pro audio; however, I have worked with basic PA setups for a number of years!

I have:
1 Studiomaster Powered Mixer (Horizon)
x2 JBL PRX 515 Tops (Active)
1 Studiomaster 1600D Amplifier
x2 Precision Device Subs (Passive)

I know this may sound silly, but as it stands I am unaware of how to link up my non-powered subs to the Driverack PX my mixer only has the two left/Right line outputs which are conneted to the left/right tops (JBL PRX 515).

Now, I am a bit perplexed as to how to take a line out from my mixer to the amplifier, to the subs and have two-way sound???

Ps. Life was simpler using two JBL Eon15 tops (passive) through my powered mixer and using the built in crossover and taking a line out to an amp for the subs.

Would appreciate any advice?

First off let me introduce you to one of the most helpful parts of this site, THE READ ME FIRST BEFORE POSTING SECTION section...

Now...the filter set is the same as the DRPA.. 260 even 480 and 4800...

When we use a fullrange speaker we use a bandpass filter, with an HPF and possibly an HPF...when we add subs, or bi-amp, we then us a crossover... a crossover is like 2 bandpass filters (or three.. or 4 as in a bi-amp top and subs or tri-amp tops with subs)

Now without knowing what SPECIFICALLY your subs are... it's pretty hard to nail down a setup... but I'd start with:
    HPF 40hz BW18
    LPF 100 hz LR24
    that's the sub...
    tops:
    HPF 100 hz LR24
this would be a 2X4 setup, or a 2X3 with mono sub in the PX...

So, out from mixer to ins on PX hi outs from PX to 515's low outs to amp and then subs...

    Hi Gadget,

Thanks for your reply. I have tried to read alot and there is so much to learn, one thing leads to another!

I now understand the basic connections, as you so kindly explained however, still need to read up on a few things you mentioned about the sub settings.

I don't want to get on anyone's last nerve and so I'm trying my best to take it all in.

I have the specs for my Subs, they are 18\" Precision Device Subs (Company in England, also produce the old Fane brand name).

    (don't have full specs)

I haven't tried to hook it all up yet tho.

I have run my mains (JBL PRX515) with the DR-PX alone in my lounge and they sound good.

Will post back when I've done more research on this site.

    Thanks again.

Oh just one more thing to clarify?

I read on another post 'PA v PX' that one can only have either a 2x2 or 2x4 setup.

I understand this to be either a 2 top 2 sub setup or a 2 top 4 sub setup.

Does this mean I can't have a mono sub setup 2 tops 1 sub?

    Thanks,

    Tony

2 x 2 = Full range stereo (2) in and full range stereo (2) out.
    2 x 4 = Full range stereo (2) in and stereo highs (2) & stereo lows (2) out. (4 total outputs)

If you only have 1 sub, select mono sub when setting up the configuration wizard. That should be in the manual.
