DRPA checksum error fixable or throwaway?

Hi Guys,

I run discos and occasionally work with bands. However my Driverack PA today powered up with a \"checksum error press program to reset\".

Now I didnt think this was too serious until I realised the main 2 Programs that were stored are now gone!! I dont know how many hours listening went into these but plenty. Whats more is there is no way to save to a lappy or any other way I am aware of, also worried if this happened at a gig (fortunately it didnt).

While booting up the screen says \" V1.010 , P23 , HW 01\" which I take it are the versions of the machine.

I have loved my PA up till now, however I have lost confidence in it bigtime, which is disappointing since it's an awesome unit and the first one I've owned. The unit is way past any warrantee and I don't even know if anyone out here in NZ can service them anyway.

Please help!!
Lincoln.

    Sorry mate,
A quick review here would have appraised you of the limitations of the PA...the PX or even the 260...We also recommend hardware to help, like a UPS for the DRPA... and that it doesn't do well in low power situations...and you could loose all program modifications so back them up...remember that digital devices have software, and can be corrupted by power issues...It isn't always cut and dried the fault of the gear that fails... human error and power failures can also contribute to these failures...sometimes we never do find out what really happened...I have the UPS, I've done thousands of shows with the DRIVERACK's and I have not yet had a failure...I NEVER couldn't go on...yes, I experienced the display issue on the DRPA, but went in and cleaned and re-set the ribbon cable and have not had a problem yet...Ya... the PX went nutso and wouldn't put out any sound ... once, but I turned it off and back on and it worked...and it has been fine since.

The 260 offers all the features you need, and can be updated with online software...it offers upload to computer storage... and pier to pier file sharing...That means I can send you MY .dwp files for your setup...But none of that matters if you don't actually DO the backup...
Sorry you lost your info, Perhaps the \"Read me first before posting sections\"

Thanks Gadget on a speedy response. i did do a search for \"checksum\" etc before posting but to no avail, well no help in my situation. Point taken though, cheers.

I was hoping to maybe send it away for an upgrade of firmware etc. However I guess this isnt possible?

Also I have had one minor issue around 1 month ago where no sound came out, even though all looked OK, incl channel leds showing output. I Switched off then on and rebooted fine with no issues and had output from all channels again...till this:(.

Again cheers for the reply. What to do now is the question..

I just saw these on ebay:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0336018745
However a bit worried about being 'locked out'. Over here the 260 is just a but expensive for the part timer I am, hence the 2nd hand option...

May go this way, unless there is good reason not to? (will only require a power converter down to 120V from our 230V). Speak now or forever hold your peace :)

I have the guys @ Tech support looking into this...

Have you tried a HARD RESET? I have never heard of a checksum error in a DRPA though? Some issues with the Display have done funny things though...it's easy to pop the top and re-seat the ribbon cable that goes to the display...See if those things help and get back to us ok?

    Cheers!
Those 260's look like a good deal though...I wouldn't hesitate...260's are very stable and have great longevity...

OK, I'll do the ribbon cable thing, then do a hard reset and start over. I have since read about an issue with the display, but never had a prob myself though.

I also see there is now a driverack PA+ which does have a USB interface to save settings etc. I dont know whether it has improved internally or not, stability-wise, or just USB support for saving settings/setting up etc. I mean that would almost fix my issues with the current probs. It never failed in operation, just on powerup which I guess could be worse.

However you've almost convinced me with the 260, though to be honest the PA has all I need. I may in the meantime either buy or build a mains filter for it and keep using it for now, while writing down my main settings to assist in case of another hiccup. I'll give it a good soak-test every day and just take my old x-o and eq with me to the gigs just in case.

Again thanks for the advice G, I feel a bit less lost now.

Where are you located? I'm not sure if they are still doing it, but DBX offered to upgrade the DRPA just a new chip with the updated (and more storage capability) preset list...and all you needed do was send it in...

I got a response from tech support... and yes the first thing to do is a herd reset... if that fails there could be a chip that needs replacing,,, u6, or u7, Eproms could be at fault... so in the case that the hard reset does not solve the problem... you'll need to send it in for service...That's not the end of the world either though...

OK. I live in New Zealand but could possibly post it over for this. I should maybe give them a call to see if this is still available and/or what it's likely to cost me. This way I'll be able to weigh up what to do then.
