:?: Hi all...I'm contemplating purchasing a dbx driverack px to use with my mackie srm 450 speakers....I'm a newbie to the pa world, and dbx. Do you think that this unit would be the way to go? I play country-rock music, five piece band, in bars. Thanks for any help! Rick

What features of the PX are you interested in using? What current gear do you use, that the PX may replace?

  • Hi...I use a Allen & Heath Mix Wizzard 16:2, going direct into the Mackies. I'm not very audio sophisticated, and have not had much luck even with a 31 band EQ. I've not the best discerning ears! So I thought that the drive rack would help with the overall sound out front, and to my one monitor mix. The mains are used mono. I also want to protect the mains with the limiter. Thank you for any help. We don't have a sound man. Rick

The least model you need for separate mains and monitors is the DRPA. The PX has no dual mono capability...The DRPA is not ideal either, like the 260, 480, and 4800...

The DRPA at least offers the Auto Eq, GEQ and feedback eliminator that you can use to eq, setup, and eliminate feedback from the 2 mixes...

A measurement mic is necessary for this purpose though, so you'll need not only the DRPA but a measurement mic as well.

The Rational Acoustics site has a great inexpensive mic for about $80...

There is one possibility that the PX could work, and that is if the mains and monitors are the exact same speakers...and the same mix...

  • Thanks for your info. The mains and monitors are the same speakers, srm 450's, but two different mixes. So I can't run the mains in one channel, and the monitors in another? Rick

What Gadget is saying is that you can, BUT... while the mixes are different, the processing will be the same.

Same HPF, same EQ cuts and boosts, same limiter, etc. So if the monitors feed back at 2K, when you pull it in the monitors, it will pull in the house also. If the house mix get a hard kick hit and the limiter grabs it, the monitor mix will be limited also (even with no kick in the mix).

Now you just have to find a happy middle ground, or make sacrifices on one side or the other (or both).

    Good luck.

That was for the PX as an example of how the mains and monitors would be the same... I actually have a band that wants EXACTLY what is in the FOH in the monitors... but of course they are processed separately in my system, I can set those monitors FBX and other modules completely different depending on the conditions, including the Eq... with the PX in this case you would have NONE of that, but if you flatten the mains and monitors properly they will work well in both applications...
