Quick Disconnect for snake

Hey folks,

I'm thinking of cutting the end off my snake and putting a quick disconnect on it so I only have to plug in the one connector to turn up the whole system.

I'm looking at something like that. These guys use them in their snakes. We have a small rolling rack with all our equipment in it and I'm putting in a locking power plug to provide a one plug power solution and I'd like to do the same with the snake. 2 connections and take the covers off and ready to go!

Are there any issues with noise or interference by doing this? Does anyone have any experience with it?

Thanks for your time!

It's done all the time, It facilitates switchover from mixer to mixer in festival situations. No, there are no real sonic issues but it really takes 2 to do what your talking about....The mixer to snake is one mult and the mixer to the rack is one...It makes changing the rack a bigger deal...but hey, it saves time in the trenches... but it can also make trouble shooting more difficult. I did it a couple times in the past, but really, it only takes about 5 minutes to plug the rack and even less to plug the snake, but there is more wear and tear on the fan of the snake this way... but with every scenario there are good and bad points.

My take on it is it grew out of necessity for situations where there were multiple groups on a single stage and each with their BE de-jour, who usually comes packing their own mixer, and outboards...Of course now with the new all in one digital consoles making the scene more and more the second mult is less necessary since they usually only have a couple outboard devices...

Maybe Dennis will weigh inhere to... he works with a bigger outfit than I.

I just went to the PSW to do my usual perusal and low and behold this thread was started:

The poster brought up a couple of bad memories I should have recounted...Smashed connector rings and bent pins....Things I'd just as soon forget

Connector wise, I think what I see the most of is Whirlwind W1, W2, W3, and W4 but there is a lot of stuff out there. And yes, you have to be careful to not crush them or bend a pin but they save a lot of time.
