Need Help! Looking at buying a Driverack 260

I am looking at buying a Driverack 260. I had a Driverack PA, but sold it as I felt at the time that the my yorkville crossover and a dual 31 band eq for the mains was a better and easier fit.

What are the benefits of the 260 over the pA? You were all so good at helping me out with my PA and I really appreciated all the help. Is the RTA better on the 260?

I am running Yorkville Elite 2000's and Yorkville 1004 bass bins, powered by Audio Pro 3400 power amps.

Actually the DRPA does not have an RTA (not in real time anyway). The 260 does.

I couldn't find Gadget's comparison (because there is no comparison  ).
    1) GUI (worth it on it's on)
    2) 2 independant processor's (mains & monitors capable)
    3) DELAAAAAY
    4) Real time RTA (mixer and room comparison)
    5) 4 band PEQ on all outputs
    6) Choice of GEQ or PEQ (pre-x-over)
    7) Visual (frequency specific) of AFS
    8) Input mixer (for greater compatability with mixers, like Mackie's +28)
    9) Brick wall limiters

    Worth every penny.

Here's what I wrote recently... on another forum...
    Driverack 260 vs Px DRPA

GUI operation for fast visual manipulation of parameters , with multiple windows so you can monitor, and manipulate much easier and faster
    Input mixers
Choice of 28 band GEQ or 9 band PEQ input Eq
2 pre xover Inserts with the choice of
    a. AFS
    b. AGC
    c. compressor
    d. gate
    e. notch filter
    f. strait wire
    g. Sub synth
Pre crossover delay, and the ability to freely redistribute the available delay between the various locations pre/post xover and 2.7 seconds of delay versus 10ms fixed per output and no pre-xover delay
Routing of any input to any or all outputs
Multiple filter and crossovers from 1x1 wire to 2x6 crossover
    Bessel xover types
    4 peq’s per output
    Brick wall limiting
    Multiple level password security
You can run the GUI over 300 feet of snake
Ability to link and unlink modules
    Copy and paste function
You can label outputs whatever you want
Realtime RTA on GUI and display screen
    Update via serial bus
    mutes on every output

    to name a few…

P.S. I added this to the FAQ section...
  • Thanks for the replies. It is sounding pretty good. I don't think I ever got the complete handle on my PA before I sold it. I never adjusted the output levels, nor knew you had to, and always wondered why it never pounded as well as when using my yorkville p2000 processor/crossover.

What do you guys mean by input mixer, as far as the compatibility?

There is an input mixer on the front end of the unit ( the DRPA is fixed ). It allows you to increase or decrease the input gain of the 260 to fight noise or use with a mixer that doesn't peak until +28 (for example) and still set up the gain structure properly.

Northern Sound and Light usually has the best pricing (typ under $700)

That Elite processor (want another one bTW  ...) has all the xover and delay and equalization in them... but I did way better with the 260. You can see the crossover plots in the manuals by Yorkville. I don't like the fact that they are unresponsive about speaker tunings though...

I have seen the stock Yorkville processor used in conjunction with the drive rack with good results, with the Tx4's. ran into the processor for the mid highs out of two outputs of DR and two more for subs and a then you have more outputs left over for fills and delay lines. But the boxes you are using will definitly benifit from not using the stock processor if the midhighs are two way or not. I use my hp Ipaq pockect pc with remote desktop for my pc to get wireless control over the drive rack so I can tweek from anywhere in the room with a stlylus and touch screen. That helps to get stuff dialed in.
  • 5000, I will tell you this, as gadget and Dra said. The GUI is worth it alone, IF you had trouble understanding the DRPA or any piece of gear that you cannot "see" what you did to something, the GUI will allow you to SEE what a PEQ does and what it does when you change the Q of a filter. And many other things.

I used the feed back detector to see what the typical areas in my monitors where that would feed back. After Seeing the exact freqs, I went to the PEQ and and cut them with that instead of a GEQ, ran the feedback again and had to make very SMALL adjustments with the GEQ. Sounded better than I ever have heard them. Read GAdgets 121 Db monitor paper. I got to about 118 db before I quit!!!

I have a couple of DRPA, a 260 and two peavey VSX 26. They claim to work on a computer but do not, they do work well with my line array but after being able to access the 260 remotely and SEE what is going on, it is a real bummer.

Get a 260 and dont look back, great device!

You will also find that the advice given on this forum is not only good and they never make you feel like a fool! Great guys
