dbx DriveRack PA+, Crown XTi amps, and JBL SRX700 system

I currently have:

2 JBL SR722
2 JBL SRX78
2 Crown XTi 4000
1 Crown XTi 6000
1 DriveRack PA+

I want to run the XTi 6000 in stereo to the 2 SR722 as the highs and bridge each XTi 4000 to each SRX728 sub.

I have tried going through the manual and ask questions in a few forums, but no luck. I was hoping someone could help me in telling me exactly how to run the wiring on this rig, and how exactly do I setup the DriveRack PA+?

I previously run my crossovers and limiters through the DSP on the XTi's. This works perfectly fine. But I just purchased the DRPA+ hoping to manage the whole system better and was hoping the wizard would be straightforward, but I think I just confused myself even more.

Could somone provide a step by step procedure on what I need to do, or maybe a link to show me to go about getting my rig set up? Any help is appreciated. Thank you very much.

Hmmm...nice equipment list but did you get the mic? I see you have decided to run tops/subs, not bi-amp tops subs... this means that the mic is even more important...I have experience with these speakers since I set up a system just last week using 722's and 728 and they sounded FAR better after the auto EQ.

jbl isn't going to provide much more than a crossover point suggestion, however if you bi-amp they will give you tuning info, delay and xover point gain... they even provide DRPA and 260 setups for the Driverack products...For them to provide PEQ or EQ setups for the speakers would indicate that they somehow NEED help...

HOWEVER they DID provide a PEQ for the subs... a quick trip to jbl pro and clicking on the "tunings" and then SRX 700 series, and then DRPA tunings...these setups...

HPF 31.5 with an 18db/octave BUTT filter...
    LPF 80hz LR24 +4.3db (subs)
    HPF 90 hz LR24 @ -0-db (tops)

The only "suspect" number is the +4.3 db for the subs...your mileage may vary...

The Auto EQ sequence to flatten the systems response will go a long way to help prevent the harsh jbl high end from overpowering the system...The numbers I got will probably not help since it's a DJ setup in a small space, with 1, 728 and 4, SRX 712M speakers... all flown.

You came to the right place...

  • Thank you for your quick reply. I am going to go through all this information right now. I did not purchase the mic. Will the purchase of the mic really be necessary?

Thank you again so much for your post.

If you REALLY want to get the most out of the DRPA+ then yes..the mic makes a huge difference... later if you want to get to the next level you can use it for SMAART or some other FFT based measurement tool.

The Rational acoustics mic is the best bang for the buck:

    but the BEH mic
    http://www.zzounds.com/item--BEHECM8000
is less expensive but also MUCH CHEAPER..

You spent good money for the good stuff... why not do it right?

  • You covinced me. I got the dbx RTA mic. I will give it a go, and see how everything will sound. I still have to read through all the documentation. Thanks for the help so far.

Hi...I am receiving good guidance from Gadget on my DRPA and amplifier selection (username: lamdig) to drive my Yorkville u215 tops (1600 w Pgm), Elite LS2104 subs. I see you are using a pair of XTi 4000's bridged for your subs, and an XTi 6000 in stereo foir your tops. Are you happy with your amplifier decision in terms of adequately driving your speakers, headroom, finding sufficient circuits to run the 3 amp configuration, etc.?

I have to make a decision this week and while I have settled on bridged XTi 4000's to run my 21-inch, 3000 w Pgm subs, I am not sure yet whether to go with for the tops (each has 2 * 15 speakers + horn in each box):

    1. One XTi 6000 in stereo (2100 w/ch.)
    2. One XTi 4000 in stereo (1200 w/ch.)
    3. Two XTi 2000s bridged (2000 w to each cabinet)

....or, should I think about bi-amping the tops?

Any comments would be appreciated. Thx

I don't know if lumboo83 will show up... but let me tell you about my rig a little... I have a Mac 3600vz running 2 LABsubs (small rig) a QSC 4050HD running the mids (4 QAP 12" ), and a Carver PM950 running the highs(4 B&C DE75 2" exit )... The Mac ALONE could easily draw 35 amps... the QSC an additional 35, and the Carver well over 20... My monitor rig has 2, RMX2450's and 2 Crown D75's running 4 15" monitors with a Driverack 260 running FOH and a 4800 running monitors....

This weekend I will be running in a club where the power is 1, 20 amp circuit for sound... PERIOD! I can achieve nearly 110 db @ mix position (about 8 meters) ...This is with a pair of old iron horse amps...NOT the high efficiency amps I speced for you... Yes that's right ALL the above AND FOH rack and mixer running a Journey tribute band...on 1 20 amp circuit!

Hey Gadget.......I hope you get paid for your guidance!!!!!!!!!!!1

As per my other post tonight in the "Upgrade Driverack PA" topic"...........felt like a bit of a goof walking into our #2 sound & audio prod'n company here in Halifax, Nova Scotia amidst an 8-high racking system in the warehouse full of EAW, QSC line array stuff. The owner was more than humble and pointed out that had I of called in June he wouldn't have even answered the call. I got the point and he was really accomodating. He is pulling a quote together on a couple of used CROWN XTis for a 2-way vs 3-way set up. He also offered to set up my rig in the warehouse and work thru optimizing the system which is worth it's weight in gold versus buying cheaper on EBAY.

As an FYI, they use CROWNS on FOH and QSC on monitors. I will post my trials and tribulations for everyone to read as I go through the process of selecting the amp configuration and the "system optimization" process. I welcome all comments though on the equipment suggestions being made to me. Thx

Participate in the optimization process...there is a lot of useful stuff you can learn.
