No output gain from 576 preamp channel

Hello, I recently acquired a DBX 576 dual channel microphone preamp/compressor. The unit has worked fine for about a month, but tonight I powered it up and was unable to get any output gain from the preamp side of the unit. I tested every cable used, and they all worked. I also switched the meter to the Drive Level (input metering) setting, and I got a healthy signal. I tested the compressor channel separately, and everything worked beautifully. What could possibly be the problem? After looking inside the unit, the gain level pot seemed fine, and both tubes were working. Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated.

Short of actually having hands on here it could be any number of things... but I'd start with those tubes...just because they glow doesn't mean they are passing signal... the glow is the heater and it provides electrons for the grids to control...any number of maladies can affect tubes... have them tested or replaced and go from there... those tubes are not much.. $10 give or take and they degrade over time...you could just get 1 tube if your in a pinch and try it in both positions (eliminate one tube at a time.. I doubt both would fail at once.. but stranger things have happened...)

  • I switched out the tubes, and the problem persists. What next?
