Some clarification needed

Hey Gadget and others,

Ok, I've gone through all the FAQ's and read me first section, so I apologize for not being able to answer my own questions, but I'm anal enough to need clarification.

My gear -
A&H MixWiz3 16:2 --> DRPA+ --> QSC GX5 --> JBL MRX515

1. If I understand correctly, when setting the gain structure on the PA+ there is no way to adjust the input gain as there is no GUI as with the 260. With pink going through my mixer I have the signal just below clipping and the PA+ it's just lighting up the bottom signal lights. This is acceptable, correct?

2. What is the recommended config for my current system with full range tops no subs. The reason I ask is that I'm not totally certain when it comes to the auto eq. I'm setting the auto eq outside with the dbx RTA mic approx 8ft away positioned midway on the speaker. Gadget, I know you state to only use a single speaker when doing the auto eq in this fashion. Does that mean you always have to preform that mono? I was doing some experimenting and the auto eq was always looking for a left and right signal. I ended up with a 1x2 setup that sounds good when I set back up in my studio.
So, my question is can I do a stereo or dual mono setup and run the auto eq with a single speaker? Would I first need to run through the setup wizard and balance the left and right and than do the auto eq?

3. When I do get to the point of adding a sub, what's the recommendation on crossover: use the crossover in the DR or on the GX5 or both. Both doesn't really make sense, and it seems to me using the DR would make the most sense as it can configure for the speaker/amp combo. Plus, it's an expensive unit and I'd like to get the most out of it.

Thanks for all of your help, I appreciate it.

-Tim

    Yes that's acceptable

2x2 for a stereo rig, if you select dual mono you will NEED to do each side separately... this is useful for rooms that are asymmetric or that have things to deal with on one side or the other.. otherwise stick with stereo...

1 x2 would be a dual mono input and a tops subs config with left top out and left mono sub out, then it wants to do the right channel...

If you want to use the subs it would be a 2x3 or 2x4 setup.. if your using one GX5 one side for subs and one side for tops (you will be seriously underpowered) but even a 2x4 setup will work fine .. just use the left side ins and left hi out and left low out. If you want to get the most out of the unit and you use monitors you can do a mono tops sub config and a single monitor feed.. detailed here..

If you want stereo tops and mono subs set up a 2X3

In the DRPA you would set up in the wizard and answer the questions... stereo tops (passive tops) subs, mono.. answer the amps question ..use custom if they are not listed...

The frequency depends on the power available, but you could start @ :
    SUB:
    HPF 45hz BW18
    LPF 100hz LR24
    Tops
    LPF 100hz LR24
Use the DRPA for the whole xover and what not...

    Gadget,

Thanks for the reply, and I just realized I posted my question in the wrong discussion, sorry bout that.

So, yes I do want to go with a stereo config. As far as the process for setting up a 2x2 config I still have a question once we get to the auto eq procedure. Do I run through the wizard to set everything up and balance the system and than take a single speaker outside to preform the auto eq to get my baseline flat preset? You did say in one of your read me posts that only one speaker is necessary I believe. If that's the case, is there something I need to do in the auto eq so it doesn't look for a left and right signal?

As far as when the subs get introduced, I forgot to mention that I have a second GX5. So, it would be one sub and one top per amp.

    Thanks again

The thing about one speaker is 2 speakers/indoors(left and right) = multiple paths to the measurement mic..(much worse indoors...) outdoors away from all reflective surfaces you have no additional paths that can cause cancellations...in the case of tops and subs it's one stack.. Too bad the QSC GX5 doesn't have the ability to do bridged mono for the subs...

    Yes...

A 2x2 config with no dual mono setup will allow you to measure one side.. and apply that to the other automatically... select dual mono and you will have to do each side separately...
