Outboard PEQ Rane C4

Hi everyone. Question on an outboard PEQ. I was shooting some metal bands for a magazine and got to watch the FOH enginer up close. He was using a digital board and was able to add PEQ filters to the kick and snare. Cut and boost two freqs. on the kick. It made quite a difference to the sound IMO. I have a GL24/DRPAs and a number of DBX compressors/gates. I run FOH for a lot of small-time metal bands and thought..Hmmm..could I benefit from a simple outboard PEQ?

My rig has 2 MRX 515s and four LA400s. XTI 4000s. I have run 1000 seat auditoriums (worship service) and small halls (200 metal fans). People and bands like my work since it it probably light years above what they are used to playing through. Am I on the right track as far as being able to tweak the kick and snare or is it a waste of $ for my small-time shows. I do this for fun so ROI is not a big deal. making a difference-better or more simple is what I am going for. Oh yea..lighter too Haha.

Thanks,
Jim

Don't you already have 4 band EQ per channel with sweeps on the two mids?

True. But with PEQ I should be able to make a very narrow Q to boost/cut a very specific frequency. The Q is set on the GL24..unless I am mistaken.

Although this is a studio example, with samples, it demonstrates what I saw and heard in a live set-up.

Yes, if you think you need it, you can definitely insert PEQs in the kick and snare channels.

I would sure like a variable HPF and LPF on the console as well..guess I'm gonna have to go digital..again...
