PA+ couple quick questions

For my pa I have the DriveRack PA+ (2)QSC 2450 (2)Peavey SP4 (2)Peavey 118 and (2) Tapco TH15 plus (2) BFM Tuba 60's and (2) BFM DR250s in the works
-The 30 limiter is shut off on both channels of both amps

My questions..
1) What is the best selection in the quick setup wizzard for the TH-15 s My dealer told me to use Peavey PR15A but that is not an option. In fact I do not see any Active Speakers in the wizzard. This is my first time using anything like this so take it easy on me. LOL I am getting into larger gigs and I am going passive to get more sound and more bass.

2) What am I doing wrong that causing me to lose real low bass threw the PA+? I know it is a setting in the crossover frequencies somewhere, but I have played with and can not seem to figure it out. I don't have much for local resources, they are all live band peeps not familiar with playing back recorded music.

3) If I wanted to use the 118's for subs and my TH-15s for tops at certain gigs what would be the best settings?

Again this is my first time with a passive system and I appreciate your advice. :?:

  • Also I have tried reading the manual and also went to the "Read First". But it is just making me wish I had went with a simple cross over instead.... :| Time is a big issue and finding time to learn this thing is killing me. When I bought it I was told "It is simple. Plug your RTA mic in and run the set up wizzard and you are rolling in 10 minutes with a balanced room and great sound" It is NOT working like that for me.... and I am sure it is 100% my fault.

Ya, probably... but were here to get you going...

First off lets start simply.. the Th15's and the Peavey 118's...

This is a typical 2x4 (or 2x3 ..mono sub/'s) setup... this would be set up as a "fullrange" tops and subs...

As for powered/un-powered amp/speaker combo's the processor doesn't have any idea if the amp is internal or external... and frankly.. it really doesn't matter EXCEPT external amps are (USUALLY) easier to set in the gain structure... (powered speakers have built in limiters you cannot turn off to find peak/clipping).

In this case you would set a fullrange top (custom or preset it really DOES NOT MATER!!!) and a custom amp...and a mono/stereo sub and custom amp...again don't get wrapped up in the semantics...we will set the HPF's and LPF's later...that is all you get with 95% of the presets anyway...(unless they are true bi-amp boxes)

load the preset...skip the auto level function for now by pressing the [PRESET} button...

the hi outs go to the amp for the tops
the low outs go to the sub amp/amps

This is like a HOME key.. pressing this at almost any other point in the setup and you will be back on the home screen...

now press the [xover] button ... this will take you into the section where we set the HPF's and LPF's and set the crossover point.. and the crossover type.

Note that in the upper left corner of the display it will show H and L that represents the Hi outs and the Low outs (if it was three way there would also be a M and it would say HML ) but it says HL in a two way setup, be it mono subs or stereo.

make the L highlighted using the controls...
    set the HPF @ 45hz BW18
    set the LPF @ 100hz LR24
    now highlight the H
    set the HPF @ 100 hz LR24
the gains can stay @ -0-

Now use the controls on the amps to turn DOWN the loudest speakers... I suspect it will be the tops (this is balancing the sound so that the tops and subs are about the same volume .. maybe a little more sub...

Store this with 3 presses of the store button
you will need to specify a location for the preset, name the preset and verify that you want to replace the preset in the chosen location...

    NOW you can Auto Eq...

Sounds like you want to put a whole bunch of different speaker stuff together? NOT a good idea...different subs and tops don't play well together...you can set some subs (probably the Peavey 118's as low mids and maybe the Fitz 60's as subs... but NEVER playing the same frequencies...

There's a LOT more to this.. the more you learn... the less you find out you know...

  • Thank you so much. I am printing your replay and going to take part of the day tomorrow to set my rig up in the back yard and figure this out.

you know.. all this and more is in the FAQ section... and you NEED to go there and learn about Auto EQ!
    and more....

Granted it may not be in a step by step form... but it's all there...With technology there is a learning curve...and a necessary plunge into said technology and learning...with knowledge comes power, and responsibility...
