setting EVX 18b and Jbl Frequencies

rolrol Posts: 22
Hello,
I already sent a message asking help with setting my system frequencies with some scoop speakers. I use the system for a local band here in Belize. Here are the system specs:

Mixer--Yamaha MG32/14FX
Crossover---Drive Rack 260
2 PV CS-800 series amps-(highs)
2 QsC PLX 3202--(mid)
2 QSC PLX 3402---(lows)
8 scoop bass speakers with EVX 18b Inside
4 top boxes (MID& HIGHS)
each box have 2 JBL 2206 12" speakers and a JbL 2447h High driver.

I appreciate your suggestions.
Thanks: rol

If the response curve on the spec sheet can be trusted, the driver on the 2352 horn shows 750 - 800hz as the start of the flattest response (a solid 4 db drop to 500hz below that point). A 1.5db peak @ 2K can be addressed with a PEQ, and a drop-off below 2K can be fixed with a Hi-shelf. A narrow PEQ (1/6 oct) @ 10K with a 5db boost and another one @ 10K (wider, maybe 2/3 oct) with another 5db. The last PEQ can be used as needed. If you have content above 14k you might use it there, if not ....

Based on that, to start, I think I'd go ...
    Subs - 35hz, BW18
    - 100hz, LR24
    Mids - 100hz, LR24
    - 750hz, LR24
    Highs - 750hz, LR24
    - 16Khz, BW6

The typical xo point between 2206 and 2447 is 1.1K - 1.3K...but I have had good luck running a xo point as low as 900 - 950...the 2447 is only rated down to 800

    Dennis,
The sheet I saw was 150w @ 1K, 100W @ 500hz. I guess it all depend how hot they will be run and how much protection he wants.

Perhaps I was mistaken...I will have to double check. I still stand by the xo freqs I listed. Check out JBL SR4731A or SR4732A

Remember that because a driver is rated to do 500 hz doesn't mean that it will last long doing it...There are 2" voice coil 1" exit horns that are rated that low also, but I'll double dog dare you to try that in a monitor running balls to the walls...it won't make the first gig alive...

However , a 4" voice coil JBL (hell even a 3" voice coil) are pretty bullet proof, HOWEVER...the longevity of the driver is brought into question the lower you go, frequency wise...

The main reason is the material that serves as the surround...it is usually the same as the dome.. titanium or aluminum, or in the REALLY expensive drivers...berillium.

    Run with Dennis's suggestions.
