Compresssor/limiter/gate in front of DRPA+

G'day experts,
I've read on here that the compressor/limiter on the DRPA+ is not as good as the 260. Well, I have the DRPA+ and was thinking of putting a compresser/limiter/gate across the sub groups inserts of my A&H Zed 420 (1&2 desk output, 3&4 on vocals).
I'm not running the DRPA+ compression on FOH, but limiters set on overeasy 2 on both top and bottoms, tops at 8db, subs at 10db (after pinking and balancing the system) and nothing cliping (amps -3db from clipping after limiting). I pinked the system at -3db and nothing over 0db on the desk. With the DRPA+ peaking occassionly around -10db I'm getting volume complaints!
The object of the exercise is to protect the system from the odd Karaoke SCREAMER (limiter) who cuts loose out of the blue (karaoke mics on one sub channel and band vocalists on the second sub channel).
What are your thoughts on the best way of achieving this?
Cheers,
Peter
