Hello, I am going to use a JBL VRX powered system (4 highs and 4 lows) and I am planing to use the PX for it. Any one could suggest witch settings to use with this speakers: crossover settings, limiter and compression settings or maybe a preset or any other setting I should consider.

Do you already own the PX? Seems a little odd that you would spend that kind of money for your house sound and then use the bottom of the line unit in the Driverack line. It may be after the fact, but you really need the 260 for such a set-up. The PX will work, but limited in scope.

Yes I own the PX and I am not buying the VRX, I was hired to run a system that contains a VRX system and a crapy EQ, I do have the PA too but I was interested on the settings for the PX. Let me know about the limitations in relationship to the 260

As I mentioned before, I am going to use the ACTIVE version of the VRX Line: VRX932LAP and VRX918SP. I am going to use 2 Highs and Lows per side.

Sorry I don't see ANYWHERE in this thread where you mention Active JBL VRX 932LAP OR VRX918Sp...

What exactly are you looking for? Equalization's? Because that is a room dependent thing...Tunings are for Biamped and Triamped (etc) systems...

The title of post says VRX powered. By "powered" I meant "active". Please let me restate:

PX Settings for Active JBL VRX: 2 VRX932LAP and 2 VRX918SP on the Left Side and 2 VRX932LAP and 2 VRX918SP on the Right Side.

I just need any settings that some one would like to share, opinions, options, experiences, way to connect them.

My goal is to get the best I can with the PX and this system.

My point was, there a several different VRX models and they all sound different..

There is no one here with VRX speakers...maybe Dennis has used them?

Otherwise, you might try the PRO Sound web, Live audio board.

Your not likely to find tunings for active speakers. That would be like JBL admitting the speakers were somehow flawed and need equalization.

Why not use the mic and try and flatten the speakers response using the AUto EQ and see what happens? Then maybe try the A and C curves also and compare.

I have used both the powered and unpowered 932LA on several occasions as well as the powered 928LA. With the non powered 932LA, you can obviously get into a total tweek fest (my idea of a well spent Sunday afternoon) but the powered 932LAPs are pretty much plug and play. I usually use 3 or 4 units per side and when the 12s couple they get a bit woofy so I might add a high shelf for array correction. Two units per side is not much of an array to correct.

    Thank you Dennis.

I have used the system for the last two weeks in a daily basis, and I have some tunnings to report but first, I have been struggling with a setting in the dbx px wizard page: When it comes to set the "Main Speaker Levels", I am using the "custom" preset, and the level page, says to set the level to 50%. What this means? is that I am setting the dbx to work at 4 dBu at the output stage?

I am asking this because the 4 dBu setting on the VRX would be at 0%

I believe dbx is using a spreadsheet like program to calculate the numbers. I know that JBL provides setup and tunings for 2 and 3 way cabinets (4 way with subs) but with active crossovers not the ones in the speakers, they do not however, provide them for passive speakers or powered speakers.

Every processor treats the sound differently so you can't even rely on tunings from other platforms, like BSS, or XTA or even between the PX and the 260 the crossover point, slope, Eq characteristics, all will vary from one of the manufacturers unit (processor) to another.

They are calculating the point the tops and subs should cross and what the balance of sub to top will be, this is where the numbers come in. Like may things in life the answer is more often than not "It depends".

When you select custom, you are not even taking advantage of the calculated settings. In short it's assuming you will set these values.

now that some time has passed, I think I have more experience with the VRX system.

First: I used the dbx PX for auto eq purpose only. The speakers where connected directly to the main output and then I did a side chain from the subs to the tops with out using the integgrated crossover on the subs. The hi VRX have their own cross over inside, JBL does not specify a frecuency. This was for me the most staigth forward setup. The auto EQ was a big improbement over the manual eq. Much better sound but not to tigth.

Second: Same system above but with the subs crossover @ 120 hz. Better bass responce.

Third: Using the crossover at the dbx. I connected the subs in mono mode, taking the signal from the low output and using the main output for the tops. The settings for the crossover are Sub: HPF 35 and LPF 118 both at 24 db/oct LR. For the tops I use: HPF 118 Hz also with 24 dB/oct LR. The levels where set up by the auto level; - 5 dBs for the sub and 8 db for tops. I am very happy with the sound of this configuration. Bass is very tigth, mids an his are very clear.

For all the configurations I used the "custom" speakers @ 50% both subs and tops. At the speakers the levels of the amps are @ 75%.

Doing this post I was thinking that dbx could make something like a recall sheet to share our pressets and experiences with other users.

Cool! Have you tried any other crossover points? I ask because some subs tend to sound honky the closer they get to 120hz. BTW there are tunings available for the 900 series on the JBL site under tunings...they are for the passive speakers but it will give you an idea what they are doing...

One thing I noticed is they suggest a BW18@30hz for the HPF for the sub and a LPF of 75hz LR24, the corresponding HPF for the tops is 85hz LR24...

Thanks, good to know it sounds better with the PX.. let us know if you try the JBL suggested settings..
