Assistance with configuration

I play in a small band and the job of keeping the PA usually falls to me. We normally use our JBL eon rig with the Driverack PX and it’s awesome. We have a large show coming up and are using our bigger PA and we want to configure the PX for it. Although the PX was designed for active speakers looking around the forums it looks like it will work on passive speakers.

I am no expert but could do with any advice on setting up the frequencies on the outputs, there are loads of presets but they are for active speakers such as JBL and Mackie. We can create our own presets but being honest I am a little out of my depth and want to ensure I set the output frequencies correctly.

We would also like to use the basic compression settings to stop the input being clipped and would also like to do the same on the sub output and the mid/high outputs.

Any assistance would be much appreciated and could maybe save me hours of working it out.

Freq. Range (-10 dB): 60 – 20.000 Hz

We need your power amps for these speakers listed and model# or at least driver compliment in order to better serve your needs...

    Thanks Gadget for the response.

The Mid/High Cabs are powered by a crown 2000 xti and the bins are powered by an Inuke 6000

    High/Mid Amps - 475 Watts at 8Ohms
    Bins Amp - Inuke 6000 - 1100 watts at 8Ohms

    I hope this helps.

    Hi Gadget,

As you can probably tell I am a novice so I have included every bit of info I have here on the speakers and amps.

    RCF 12" L12P540 - 97 dB Sensitivity 50 Hz – 2 kHz Frequency range, 8Ohm, 400 Watt RMS
    2" P-Audio BM2-D750 Compression Driver - Power Handling 100Watt, Recommended Crossover 1kHz or higher (12dB/Octslope)
Powered by a Crown XTI2000 in stereo - 475 Watts at 8Ohm Stereo

2 x Bass Speakers - Custom Built by Wats they are 15" Hornloaded Cabinets
    Power Handling: 600 Watt Continuous
    1200 Watt Program
    2400 Watt Peak
    Freq. Response (-3 dB): 42 – 130 Hz
    Freq. Range (-10 dB): 38 – 130 Hz
Powered by Behringer iNuke 6000 in stereo - 1100 Watts at 8Ohm stereo

Sorry if I have missed anything I really appreciate any guidance. The PX has arrived today so I am just familiarising myself with the menus, I have read the manual back to front and scoured this forum. I feel a little more confident now but you cannot beat the advice from somebody that has used this kit in a live situation.

That's what I was afraid of...one more question..(maybe 2 ) Are those tops Bi-amp only, or is there a passive crossover built into the tops? Because if they are you have the wrong driverack! The PX will not do 3 way...

    Who or what is Wats???

Hi gadget the tops have crossovers built in to them so they run from one amplifier only.

Wats are a UK based company that custom build speakers not sure if they are still around but the kit is nicely built.

    Ok,
    Subs: HPF 40hz BW18
    LPF 118hz LR24

    tops: HPF 118hz LR24

Unfortunately the PX doesn't have any alignment delay...

Basically, I have put a whole mix compression scheme in the FAQ section, but limiters are what you want for OOPS protection, otherwise you need to use the gain structure ("Start Here" thread) to protect your system...

    Gadget many thanks indeed!

This worked a treat and the PA is sounding great, I have not been able to run the PA up to a decent level yet but I am getting to an outdoor gig a few hours early tomorrow so I can have a check of things at show volume.

I was thinking of only setting the compression on the inputs as my thoughts are if this is done correctly the outputs should not need limiting. I have sorted all the gain structure out and my amp gains are sat at about 75% where the used to be up full with our old crossover.

I appreciate you taking the time to help me out.
Many thanks from a very cold and wet Scotland!
