In Door Auto-EQ method - But my speakers are mounted ??

MrM45MrM45 Posts: 17
I do not have the luxury of taking my speakers down and placing them on the floor. They are mounted and they are facing the upward slope of a cathedral ceiling. So there is no way to point the mic at a 90* flat surface and point the speaker at the mic.

Is there some alternate way to do the In door method with mounted speakers? Pointing the RTA mic at the speaker? But how far away? And how much db to use in the auto eq wizard?

Thanks

I'd try taking out a row of chairs on either side of the center isle and place the mic on what looks like the carpeted floor about 20-25 feet out and shut off all other speakers but the center and Auto the front main only, then do the wings and then the back section. They all have different speakers and will need different EQ. Barring that, just get the mic close enough ( 5-6 feet) that bounce reflections don't have enough energy to affect the EQ pass.

Thanks so much. Enjoy reading your posts and several on the forum here.

Should i point the mic straight down at the carpet or set it on a towel aimed at the speaker?

Then once I have the EQ for each, the idea is to transfer that EQ data to the parametrics correct? This would be the "tuning" for each box?

That would be best (transferring BROAD EQ moves to the PEq's (forget about the little things here...)...just put the mic on the carpet...then once you have the system as flat as you can with the PEq's do another auto EQ pass and see if you can't get a little fine tuning with the GEQ.. this should offer you the best gain before feedback.
