Im putting together a new pa system together and be grateful for any suggestions and pointers on set up, eq, tunning specs. and so forth.
Here is my gear:
Presonus SL 16.4.2
dbx PA2 running tri amped
Peavey qw2 tops qw 218 bottoms
Peavey Irp2 5000 890 watts per side on each horns at 8ohms wich I know is to much but I already had the amp and will have to pad down.
Peavey Irp2 7500 1250 watts per side on each mids at 8ohms
2 ea Peavey CS4000's bridged @ 4000 watts 4ohms to each sub
Looking for any help as i always ran manual crossovers and have a pretty good ear but im new to the dbx world! I have a pretty good graps on the units and its utilities cause ive run tone of out board gear but wouls appreciate anny advise or set up pointers, thanks!

I couldn't find any thing on the Peavey site. Does the passive x-over tell the x-over? (Edit: I have no idea what I meant to say hear.) That is where I would start.

    Sub 45hz BW18 - 100hz LR24
    Mid 100hz LR24 - ??hz LR24
    Horn ??hz LR24 - out

One stack, outside, mic about 15' in front.

  • When you say mic one stack outside, do you mean use the auto eq? Tried auto eq but im running in mono and al it wont complete cause it cant find the right side!

That is what I hear (won't complete in mono). I have no answer. There is another recent thread regarding this. They were going to contact tech support. Maybe they will share the result.

Are you mixing (set-up) in such a way that you cannot use the L&R outputs from the mixer to the DRPA2? Just because you are mixing all channels panned center, doesn't mean you can't send a "pretend" stereo signal.

    DRA
  • I can use left and right inputs but I only have 1 amp im using for mids and highs

Does the DRPA2 prompt a button press when going from l to r during auto EQ? If so, switch the Pa2 to amp cables to the other outputs? Worth a try.

    DRA
  • It samples the left then right then prompts no right single detected and gives you the option to cancel or try again. I could swap the cables over and it woul probable work but its just a pain. Ill try it in a bit. So how many samples should I take out doors at 15 foot?

Outdoors? Yes, if you are setting a baseline using the PEQs (that are never adjusted again). No need, if not.

Heres some info on the QW2

    Crossover frequency (internal passive):
Low frequency - high frequency: Mids to Highs
    52 to 1,200 Hz L/R 24 I wouldnt cross it that low, I use 75 Hz
    1,200 Hz to 18 Khz L/R 24

    Time offset:
    Low frequency: delay 0.27 ms
    High frequency: 0.00 ms

frequency response from 52 Hz to
    18 kHz.

These are the Internal QW Crossover points, and they use the LR 24 dB Filters....

Once you enter the proper Crossover settings, even if you have only one amp your SYSTEM should be setup as MONO, Then run the Wizards and follow the instructions. Be sure you have the proper Gain/Voltage settings for your amps, IF your using one side of an amp for MIDS, and the other for HIGHS be sure your AMP is setup in Stereo so it will operate independently giving you seperate MID/HIGH SIGNALS...

Ive reread your posts and if you want to do this simply, the QW2 has a very robust Internal crossover, its designed for Hi Power operation, use the CS 4000s for sub on LOWS...Set to x over at 100HZ, then use the QW2s in quasi full range, theyll only get the 100 HZ and up or you can tweak that down to make them take off at 75-100HZ and youll have a two way HIGHS and LOWS system, use the IPR 7500 to drive the QW2s....then your entire system is stereo....using the above x over points...

Make sure you connect your speaker cables to the FULL RANGE input on the QW2 for this method...the internal crossovers on the QW2 are very robust and will take a pounding, its a simpler method and saves some headaches and Amps for other needs..

You then setup your DRPA 2 in the Stereo wtih subs mode, Use the NOT LISTED speaker option which will give you a neary perfect xover and setup is done...
  • Set up is no problem and ive ran three way systems for years now with traditional cross overs. The issue is the driverack pa2 won't auto eq in mono mode cause the signal coming out the right side the driverack isnt present.
