Gain/volume issue on JBL Eon One MKii

I have a JBL Eon One MKii. When I'm setting up and adjusting levels on each vocal mic, the mic volume will increase very gradually as I slowly turn up the gain, but then reaches a point where it makes a sudden jump to very high volume with no warning, i.e. no more gradual increase. Is there something I can do to avoid this?
