Cardioid Setup for SRX828SP

I have four (4) SRX828SP's and would like to explore a cardioid setup for them in a left-right stereo configuration (with one primary and one cardioid box per side). All of the documentation and illustrations for the SRX828SP's seem to indicate (confirmed by a tech from JBL) that I'd need a 3rd box for each array (2 front facing; 1 rear facing set to cardioid).

Anyone been able to do what I'm looking to do? My application is a DJ set-up, not live audio; is it even worth pursuing in any event?
