JBL Bar 1000 - Subwoofer not very bassie. possibly fault?

Hi all.

Yesterday I received my JBL Bar 1000 to replace my 12 year old Samsung HT-D5500 Home theatre system... and after some initial play back tests I find that the 300w Sub seems to be much less capable than my old woofer that came with my Samsung. Even when the Sub is pushed up to lvl 5.

According to the Manual of the HT-D5500 that woofer on that is only 170w but my new one is definitely not as bassy as my old one.

Can anyone think of a reason why this might be the case?
