JBL Quantum 300 mic broke off

I have been using a JBL Quantum 300 headphones as my daily driver for sometime now. Recently I went on vacation and when I returned I found that the boom arm of the foldable mic had cracked and broken off. The mic was hanging just from the wire.
Is this a common occurrence? I have a Quantum 100 also, but that does not seem to have the same issue.
