Crown CE1000 goes into fault mode when speakers are connected

Just bought a used,unknown Crown CE1000. When I have speakers connected, it goes into fault mode and doesn't stop the cycle. It does this using Speakons or banana plugs. I have tried 2 different sets of speakers with the same result. As long I don't have speakers connected, it is stable. It's hard to listen to that way, though. Thanks for the help.

    Forgot to introduce myself........Hello, just joined today. Been using a Crown CP660 for my subs in my hifi setup. Was going to replace it with this Ce1000.

    Sounds like there's a short in the speaker cable (at one, or both ends).
