User device audio levels

I'm troubleshooting a group fitness studio where the volume level of the users phone is causing the system to clip. The current mixer in a CSM 14 using an external Logitech Bluetooth device feeding the line input. If the user sets the phone between 1/4 and 1/2 the sound is fine. The problem is, there are multiple instructors and they need to be able to connect their phones just like they do in their vehicles sound system. What allows the user to max the phone in a car and not in studio audio system?

Use a Bluetooth receiver with volume attenuation – Something like the iFi Zen Blue or a pro-grade Bluetooth receiver that outputs at a true line level.

Insert a passive attenuator between the Bluetooth receiver and the mixer input to tame the signal before it reaches the mixer.

Use a DI box or something with gain control between the Bluetooth device and the mixer. That gives you hands-on control over input levels without relying on the phone.

Once your levels are properly managed, you can let instructors connect like they’re pairing with their car stereo—max volume, no stress, no clipping.

Because honestly, in a good studio setup, the sound should flow as effortlessly as a chilled glass of Champagne clean, crisp, and bubbly with zero distortion. 🍾
