How do I get the Microphone to connect to Sound forge on my Laptop?

I have the Soundcraft Notepad 8FX and it Seems that I am having an issue getting the microphone to engage on Sound Forge. I can hear the Mic is active through the Headphones, but when I hit record on Sound Forge their is nothing, nothing is being recorded. One video on YouTube said make sure your Mic is active on your laptop, but I have no clue how to turn a microphone on if that's keeping me from recording. I am using the USB Plug in from the Mixer to the Laptop. Am I missing something still ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    No you not missing anything. Mine was working fine and started doing the same
