Expression 2 using Pro tools to mix only as the daw with play back

Due to not being on the road dueto covid we decided to put our Expression 2 to good use.
We want to use the desk to mix music created in logic.
Ideally we would like to use the desk to make use of the preamp and mix the track with the ability to play back the tracks at will.
Can you help me as I have got as far as using the direct functionality to assign the channels to the USB card and the outputs to 1 & 2 but I still cannot get play back.
Can you please help me.
