External Mute Switch - when using phantom power

I would like to offer a remote mute switch for a condenser mic connected using phantom power from a Ui-24R. The mute switch shorts the signal wires. This works fine with a dynamic mic, but will it work when phantom power is enabled? These same wires carry the 48 volt phantom power. If I short them, will I damage the mixer?
