Ghost: using a 2nd unit as expander, is it possible?

I have a 24 channel ghost console, and I’d like to have more channels. The expander is more of a unique piece of gear than rare, so I’m wondering if it’s possible to use another console as the expander unit - has anyone ever tried that?
