VCA "SPILL" not present in PHONE mode

I decided to group my choir mics into a VCA and only display the VCA in my view. But in PHONE mode, the software does not show the SPILL button so that I can make changes to individual mics in the group. Can anyone offer any advice? Is this designed, a design flaw, or a bug?
