Playback gets recorded on armed track Notepad-FX12

Hi,
I have a very frustrating problem.
When trying to record guitar using Notepad-12FX's internal soundcard (guitar-pedals:line out -> Notepad: input 5/6) the track playing in the background (and metronome) gets recorded into the track that's been armed in DAW (cakewalk by bandlab, latest drivers, win11).
When turning monitoring off, you can see the input of the track being jumping with the pulse of the playback even when the volume is off in the amp sim thats feeding the input of the mixer.
The config in the DAW works well with other interface so the problem does not lie there.
I've tried all output variations in the tracks that are playing in the background but no luck.
Has anybody any idea what's going on?
This problem makes the interface-feature unusable thus forcing me to rethink my setup and possibly bying a new mixer. Money that would be better used on some funky new toys instead....
Any help is greatly appreciated!
